Independent
I of the Storm as an idea/concept came to me through my experience within the care sector as a Registered Nurse and Registered Manager for 25+ years.

I learnt that the role involved a constant struggle with managing the demands from regulating bodies, commissioning bodies and internal politics all whilst working towards the delivery of quality care.

It was an ongoing struggle trying to satisfy the demands of these differing bodies. Each of which had their own peculiar oversight and requirements. Whilst maintaining both a positive team and culture.

I realised that any service directed at supporting key staff in this field had to be independent. Focused on the individual rather than coming from a need to influence/monitor/assess for either the business or other interested authorities.

Essentially the person being supported needs to know that the service being provided is not influenced by outside authorities including their own management structure by thought, action or opinion. That the help being given is non-judgemental, unconstrained and unconnected. Yet delivered within the parameters of an ethical framework. The aim being to provide a safe space for reflection.
